The young man or woman who would join the ranks of journalists must learn and then put into practice prin- ciples and concepts that have been developed over the years by practitioners who understand first, that truth is elusive and second, that its pursuit and capture on paper require mastery of a demanding discipline To explain and illustrate these principles, we will spend a lot of time with truth seekers-another way to describe good journalists--on newspapers and at broadcast stations as they go about their work. We will accompany a young re porter as he conducts his first interview, and we will watch an experienced re porter cover a racial confrontation.
