Unit Four:Writing Between the Lines Teaching objectives: To make students understand what an argumentation is and how the writer makes his intention plain: Tohelp students master the general techniques of argumentative writing To help students find the topic sentence and the supporting details and understand the mair idea of the text; To supply students with opportunities to practice their basic language skills. Pre-reading questions: Test students on the background reading materials and see if they have a general idea of an argumentation; ask students to explain the title of Text I: Writing Between the Lines. Clarify the meanings of the word “argumentation’’, and introduce what an argumentation is. 2. Study of Text I: Analyzing the structure of the text: involving the students in summing up how the writer puts forward his argument and then develops his argument and finally comes to the conclusion. Ask students to sum up the main idea of the text. 3.Assignment  Review Text I.  Preview Text II.  Read Text III. 2 nd session 1. Continuation of the study of Text I: Allow students some time to ask questions on the text. Focus on language points of the text. Call students’ attention to the methods employed by the writer to make his argument convincing . 2.Assignment  Student’s Book: P63—64 Vocabulary, P68—69 Questions;  Workbook: P64—65 Translation. 3 rd session 1. Study of Text II Ask questions on Text II to help students better understand Text II. 2 Oral Work Supply students with opportunities to talk on the topic “The Way I Do My Reading”. 3.
