Mary,he pursued research at the National Aeronautics and Space Admini- stration (NASA)Langley Research Center in the field of carbon nano- technology during 1999 to 2001.He was provost and vice president for academic affairs at the University of Delaware from 1991 to 1993 and served as dean of the College of Engineering and director of the Center for Composite Materials during 1977 to 1991 at the same institution.Dr.Pipes was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 1987 and the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences in 1993.He was appointed Robert L.
