Joumal of Social Policy, 1977, 6(2): 129-156 [责任编辑李新伟] Housing Sources and Its Determinants of Chinas Urban Youth: Empirical Analysis Based on Only-Child Property and Floating Features Jian, LI Ji (School of Sociology and Population Studies, Renmin University, Beijing, 100872, China) Abstract: Housing problem has been one of the important economic, social and livelihood issues for youth Based on the data of 2009 National Urban Youth Survey, ANOVA and multinomial logistic regression are used to analyze housing sources and its determinants of urban youth from the perspective of only-child property, floating features and marriage status. It turns out that housing stratification exists among the urban youth. Compared with their counterparts who have siblings, only-children are more likely to purchase hous- es, but mostly with the aid of their parents. The floating status of youth may lessen the probability of pur- hasing houses, and make youth more likely to rent houses. The first marriage will dramatically increase the probability of purchasing houses for the youth, and childbearing will increase the probability of purchasing houses for non-only-children. Besides, family and personal characteristics also have significant effects on housing sources of youth.
