上游文通大学 HANGHAI JIAO TONG UNIVERSIT Research Status of Human-Computer Interaction gestures. With the improvement oflimb action recognition, the performance ofsomatosensory game also raised so that we can play table tennis, box and cut fruit in front of the screen.Additionally, action recognition can also be applied into safety monitoring. For example, researchers are considering install a sensor on one's private computer, then it will recognize you by your walking frequency. When someone steals your computer, the sensor will call the police automatically. 6.Virtual Reality Besides the multimodal interaction, the virtual reality is another technology of great importance to realize the human-computer interaction, which includes three parts-the virtual reality system, the virtual reality hardware and the virtual reality software. 6.1 Virtual Reality System The virtual reality system dates back to the 1990s and with the development in the field of computer science,a significantly great progress has been made in it.Up till now, there has been a great deal of means for people to get access to the virtual reality system.According to the different ways in which users take part in the virtual reality system, scientists divide the systems into four groups. 6.1.1 Desktop Virtual Reality The first group, called Desktop Virtual Reality',is definitely a very widely-used system.Users can easily interact with the computers through monitors which display the virtual reality systems. For example,Kelner et al.(2000)showed a virtual reality application built on the Internet browser, which is mainly used to simulate tides according to the level of sea inputted into the computer by the users.Users can observe the traits of tides and gain information of the tides'dynamics through the screen and they can set the color and texture of the scenes shown in the system as well. 6.1.2 Immersive Virtual Reality Fig.9 Immersive Virtual Reality 'Immersive Virtual Reality',another powerful virtual reality system, brings the users real feelings by some extremely advanced equipment, such as the Head Mounted Display, the Data Glove and the Location Tracker, which can make the users surrounded by the virtual world almost completely. However,a great majority of them are seldom found in our daily lives but are more likely to be seen in the lab.At present, this system is hard to be popularized due to the defective and exceedingly expensive equipment (Chen,Zou,Chen,&Liu,2011). 12/19Research Status of Human-Computer Interaction 12 / 19 gestures.
