Base on the pathw ay and m echa2 n ism of fo rm ation, b iogen ic gas w as divided in to five differen t so rts, as fo llow : early b iogen ic gas, low m atu re gas, late b iogen ic gas, secondary b iogen ic gas from degradation of crude o il and upgrading gas from secondary alteration of shallow o il and gas, w h ich belonging to p ristine and secondary b iogen ic gas respec2 tively. D ifferen t so rts of b iogen ic gasm ay be iden tified acco rding as the carbon iso tope and the character of gas con stituen ts. Becau se b iogen ic gas is in the shallow stratum , and easy to do exp lo itation; fu rtherm o re, becau se of the good quality and the low er exp lo ration co st, b iogen ic gas shou ld be given a great deal exp lo2 ration p ro specting. A lthough, there have been found abou t 30 b iogen ic gas reservo irs, a lo t of them are sm all gas reservo irs excep t that in Q aidam basin.
