As the curriculum mentioned,students in Grade 9 should be able to understand the conversations and get the useful information from their familiar topics.In the previous lessons, the students have learnt about a story of a Chinese exchange student's life in the US and get to know what is 'culture shock'.From their daily lives,the background knowledge of America is Analysis of the also easy to get access to,so it is not difficult for them to understand the listening material.For students the speaking competence,the students of Grade 9 are expected to have the ability to clarify their views in a proper way.The speaking task of this lesson is to make comparison based on a chart. The students may find it difficult to organize their language,so more expressions and sentence patterns should be given first. By the end of this lesson,the students'English core competence will be cultivated as follow: 1.Language Proficiency: 1.Get to know more words about other cultures,such as:Washington D.C.,The Statue of Liberty,The White House,etc. 2.Do the story retelling by the given key words from mind map in a fluent and logical way. 3.Master the expressions and sentence patterns of making comparison and use them correctly in speaking practice. 2.Learning Capacity: 1.Key information catching and the skill of fast notes taking will be strengthened. 2.Students'ability of analyzing information will be trained.
