Contemporary China History Studies No.2,2004 February 1950 was the first treaty with foreign countries after the founding of New China. The signing of this treaty signified a completely new type of relations between the People's Republic of China and the Soviet Union after the victory of the revolution and marked the beginning of a historical period of all-round cooperation between the two countries.A comparison of this treaty with the Sino-Soviet Treaty of Friendship and Alliance signed by the Soviet Union and the Kuomintang government on 14 August 1945 reveals that the former was a product of full consultation and positive dialogue with the stress on mutual assistance and cooperation as well as alliance.
