We have done some research to investigate why learners with higher motivation can learn English better.First of all, we conducted a questionnaire investigation on how students were motivated in their English learning,whether they liked the culture,wanted to study abroad,or just hoped to pass required courses.Then we carried out an empirical study by dividing the students into groups of lower and higher motivation and gave each group of students the same amount of language instructions for two years.The result shows that students with higher motivation actually perform better than those with lower motivation.It can also be found that students who likes the culture of the target language demonstrate a continuous effort in learning English.We have done some research to investigate why learners with higher motivation can learn English better.
