Ana2 lyzing the relationship between urbanization and water resource inW uwei City has the important realistic meaning to imp roving eco - environment in Hexi corridor and p romp ting urbanization and industrialization in Wuwei City effectively. Based on the historical materials and the statistical data from 1985 to 2005 of W uwei City, the re2 search p robed the mechanism of urbanization p rocess under the restriction of water resource in W uwei City from total quantity change, course m igration, spatial distribution, water used structure and water p rice. Analysis re2 sults of the relationship between water resource and urbanization form 1985 to 2005 showed that the form and de2 velopment ofWuwei City was influenced by water resource obviously. The relationship between water utilization and urbanization, between water utilization and econom ic development were comp lex, which had a break - in p rocess from antagonistic to synchro coordinating. The relationship between water utilization and the urban con2 struction land area was comp lex and water utilization reduced in a certain extent along with the increase of urban construction land area. The relationship between agriculturalwater use efficiency and the p roportion of agricultur2 al output value in GDP showed negative linear correlation and the relationship between industrial water use effi2 ciency and the p roportion of industrial output value in GDP showed positive linear correlation. W ith the rap id de2 velopment of urbanization inW uwei City, the restriction ofwater resource to urbanization would be more obvious, develop ing a water - saving city by op tim izing the water used structure, p romoting p roductive and domestic water conservation, enhancing the public water - saving consciousness and strengthening the water p rice regulation were the important ways to alleviate the water resource p ressure.
