Abstract Why Didn't Chinese Discover the Halley's Comet? In the beginning of 18th century,Halley discovered the Halley's Comet,because of the laws on elliptic orbit of planet motion and gravitation. There were the earliest,maniest and most continuos historic records of the Comet in China.But Chinese scientists had not discovered the Comet before Halley's time, because of that they did not have any idears of two laws mentioned above. ZHOU BI SUAN JING,the Exclusive Axiomatic System in Ancient China The famous Chinese astronomical text ZHOU BI SUAN JING (ZBSJ),accompli- shed in about B.C.100.Now we find it is really an axiomatic system.There are at least two axioms in this system: 1.Heaven and earth are two parallel planes. 2.The most ambit of sunlight illumination and human set eye on is 167,000 Li. Based on these two axioms,ZBSJ deduced a series of theorems: a.gnomon shadow (in meridian)changes 1 Cun,it's corresponding distance is 1,000Li. b.the distance between heaven and earth is 80,000 Li. c.the diameter of discoid universe is 810,000 Li.
