Mechanical Properties AO TONG In Summary: when properly processed,the static mechanical properties of AM metallic materials are comparable to conventionally fabricated metallic components.The relatively high cooling rates achieved reduce partitioning and favor reduced grain sizes. However,AM fabricated materials do exhibit microstructural and mechanical property anisotropy with the Z-direction generally being the weakest. Dynamic properties of AM produced alloys are dominated by defect structures,viz.,micro-porosity and surface finish. However,properly processed and finished machined AM alloys can exhibit fatigue properties on parity with those of wrought alloys.
