语义网格是语义Web和网格相结合产生的新的研究领域，最初语义网格提出是为了加速e-Science的发展。网格本身致力于共享信息资源，然而现有网格上存在信息格式异构，信息语义的多重性以及信息关系的匮乏和非统一等问题。在传统的网格中引入语义来改变这种局面，语义网格通过将网格上的信息进行更好的形式化描述来解决以上问题，以使计算机尽可能取代人进行网格上信息处理
