Voluntas New Tactics,Old Tactics? The impact of the actions is illustrated by their duplication across the PRC following the initial action.This is especially true for the Injured Brides action, which was copied and conducted in many other Chinese cities (Yu 2012;Haikuo 2013). Due to its specific nature,the activism around Kim Lee's final court hearing was not duplicated elsewhere.However,the participating activists went on to organize performance art advocacy at her husband's lectures,for instance,in Nanjing [Women Internet provider(网易女人做更好的自己)20l2】.The tactical set--upof the Injured Brides action,on the other hand,was copied several times,as illustrated in Fig.3. The Injured Brides activism was frequently revitalized in the context of the international campaign,the 16 days of Activism Against Gender Violence,which starts every year on November 25th:International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.23 The Injured Brides activism thus became an inherent part of the tactical repertoire of ADV mobilization,not only in Beijing but also throughout the PRC. Moreover,although the dissemination through media sources remained moder- ate,the dissemination of the information through alternative media channels seemed to have worked effectively: Weibo is a crucial information tool for us.It's speed is remarkable.(Interview 6,translation by author) Although the duplicates were inspired by the original event in Beijing,they were organized by volunteers and were not supported by the mobilizing structure of professional Beijing ADV organizations (Interviews 2,5,7 and 9).In this sense,the activism became a symbolic tactic in the broader ADV movement for better legal protection against DV.However,it lost its disruptive nature because its structure and content,whilst relocated in different geographic regions,remained the same- so policy elites had ample time to design adequate counter-measures or narratives.
