The course takes Chinese characteristic socialism and Chinese dream education, and socialism core values education as basis, and guides students to comprehend and acquire knowledge of basic literary elements, concepts and theories and obtain the fundamental quality and capability of commenting, analyzing and appreciating literary works and the ability of critical thinking. The course of An Introduction to English literature is mainly to introduce, read, discuss and analyze the representative works of English writers, combining theory with practice. The focus is on the discussion and analysis of literary works, including identifying literary genres, analyzing the plot and structure, characters and themes of novels, understanding the rhythm, rhetorical features and images of poetry, commenting on the dialogue, language style and stage effect of drama, analyzing the style and theme of prose, so as to help students preliminarily master Marxist world outlook and methodology, and enhance students' cognition and understanding of English literature and culture from the dimensions of history and reality, theory and practice. The teaching methodology of this course is mainly based on heuristic, interactive
and mixed teaching. The interaction of preview after class is combined with the interaction of lecture, question-answer, class discussion and after-class homework. Students are required to attend classes on time and their attendance will be checked in accordance with university regulations.
