T o clarify The terms neighborhood and community are not synonymous Neighborhoods are concerned with spatial boundaries. (Sampson, et. Al, 1997) Communities have to do with social relationships and social interactions on matters concerning a common interest (Wellman, 1999)

In the words of community animator, Jeff Bercuvitz Colloquially, people often use the term community"to describe a group of people who come together regularly to live, work, play, or worship. They can be communities, but it is more accurate to speak of them as groups, associations neighborhoods, workplaces, or congregations.. I dont think it is accurate to speak of such groups as"communities "until the people in them engage with each other, repeatedly and consistently, in interactions characterized by mutual respect. The necessary step between being a group and becoming a community is engaging in community building
