He became a professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of Concordia University in 1977.He was chair of the department from 1994 till 2000 and then again from 2003 till 2006.He has been working on Polymer Composites since 1979.He established the Concordia Cen- ter for Composites in 1993 and has been Director of the Center since. He formed the Canadian Association for Composite Structures and Materials(CACMA)in 1988.He co-established together with a Japa- nese colleague the series of Canada-Japan workshop on composites since 1996. Dr.Hoa is a fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Institute of Canada.He is a recipient of the Society of Automotive Engineers Ralph Teetor award,the Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering G.H.Duggan medal,the Synergy award from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada,the Association des Directeurs de Recherche Industrielle du Quebec prize,the NanoQuebec Nano Academia prize,and he is a research fellow of Pratt Whitney Canada Ltd. Dr.Hoa has been carrying research and teaching on polymer compos- ites since 1979 and polymer nanocomposites since 2000.He has been collaborating with many companies in composites in Canada,USA and internationally. 343
