Background Now we are paying more attention to patients'security in the hospital.A report from Archives of Internal Medicine 2002 pointed out that there was nearly one mistake in every five drug using in hospital. The two common mistakes are drug taking at the wrong time(43%)and no quantity marked(30%).The study found that 7%of error can cause injury. This means that in a medical institution with 300 beds, error that can cause injury happens 40 times a day. Also,we always spend a lot of time to check the room or other place finding a Page 1 Total 4

There are“5 right'"principles:right kind of drug、right amount、right time、right patient and right way of taking drug. They explain the factors of the drug using process. To ensure the successful implementation of this process,it is important to get the patient and drug information in the medical point by a simple and specific way so that nurse can reduce making mistakes. 医疗失误发生率 定制 7-20% 抄写 7-10% 分配 10-15% 管理 50-75% Sources:Califomia Hoakthcare Foundation:Ohio Valley Goneral Hospital Figure 2 The probability of medical errors Figure 2 shows medical errors often occur in these stages among the various stages of medical management. If we can make a second check in the last stage of drug using,we can ensure patients'5 right. How does RFID Solve the Problem When a patient goes to the hospital,he will receive a wristband which is made of RFID technique. It contains the information of a patient, for example, name, age, blood type, medical history, bed Number, drug sensitive to(过敏原),when he need to get an injection, the amount of the injection and so on. (RFID) ((RFID》 RFID) Figure 3 RFID Wristband Before drug using, nurse can check whether patient and medicine are matching by scanning wristband and medicine code.If they are matching and the time amount are right, then the patient takes the medicine.A study in the United States Veterans Administration found, this method will reduce 86.2%of medical errors. Hospital can put signal reception and transmission equipment in the room, hall or other areas forming a network. When a patient walks around the equipment can get his immediate position, status and transmit the information through the network, then, doctors will read it out in the control software and provide better medical care. Because the wristband contains too much private information(cellphone number or home address)that we do not want others know.If the hospital don't have a better control of the information or even sell it for commercial reasons,it can be harmful to patient. In my opinion,a better authority management is the key. Conclusion RFID is a potential technology that can reduce the drug using error and ensure patient security.Only by a better supervision and management can we benefit from it and lead a healthy and convenient life.
