Stress is a natural part of everyday life and there is no way to avoid it.In fact,it is not the bad thing it is often supposed to be.A certain amount of stress is vital to provide motivation and give purpose to life.It is only when the stress gets out of control that it can lead to poor performance and ill health. The amount of stress a person can withstand depends very much on the individual. Some people are not afraid of stress, and such characters are obviously prime material for managerial responsibilities.Others lose heart at the first signs of unusual difficulties. When exposed to stress,in whatever form,we react chemically and physically. In fact we make choice between "flight or fight"and in more primitive days the choices made the difference between life or death. The crises we meet today are unlikely to be so extreme, but however little the stress,it involves the same response. It is when such a reaction lasts long, through continued exposure to stress, that health becomes endangered.Such serious condition as high blood pressure and heart diseases have established links with stress.Since we cannot remove stress from our lives (it would be unwise to do so even if we could),we need to find ways to deal with it. Questions (26-30)Multiple Choice:Choose the best answer among the choices given.Write the appropriate letters in the space indicated on the answer sheet. 26."Stress"as the title of this passage means A.emphasis B.tension or anxiety C.physical strength 27.“essential'”in paragraph1 means A.extremely necessary B.very harmful C.very good 21

fantastic.I guess it was probably "love at first sight".We've been together ever since! There were a few problems with her parents at first.I wasn't the sort of guy they'd imagined having at a son-in-law but they soon got used to me and realized how happy Lucy and I were together. we were only fifteen.I was so excited the first time I asked her out! After that,we spent every spare moment together. Everyone-our parents, teachers, friends and so on-predicted that we'd break up one day.We were determined to prove them wrong and were engaged when we were nineteen. The evening I proposed was like something from a romantic novel.I chose my moment and asked the magic question:"Jody, darling, will you marry me?"her answer was a few tears of happiness. It seems crazy when I look back on it!Again, everyone was expecting us to break off the engagement, but we never even considered that. We were both delighted to be parents, but somehow we just grew further and further apart from each other. We were arguing the whole time and were both very miserable. Eventually, after four years,we separated and then, divorced.I still see Jessica regularly.I can't say I enjoy living alone, but I haven't yet found another partner.Jody is dating a guy who lives in the same apartment house as her but I don't think their relationship is really serious.I'm really sad about our divorce, but I guess everyone was right:we were too young when we started going together and,the truth is,we were never really compatible.
