The basic meaning of"pet"is an animal we keep for emotional rather than economic reasons.A pet animal keeps us company and reduces our stress and loneliness.But pets offer us more than just companionship:they provide us the opportunity to love and be loved. Pets can calm us and bring us out of a funk when human words don't help. When pets depend onus for food and shelter,they make us feel needed and important. Keeping a pet around means young kids have the access to the more natural world in this"Plastic Age",and learning to care for a pet helps achild to grow into a loving adult who feels responsible for those who depend on them and towards the society that needs their contribution for a better world too.
