1 Units 13 & 14: Dating I. Teaching Aims and Demands: By the end of this part, students are expected to be able to 1. use skillfully the sentences to talk about dating. 2. offer the right answers to questions about dating 3. give a brief summary to the conversations of dating. 4. understand the listening materials. II. Difficult and Key Points: Key Points: To talk about dating. Difficult points: To express the feeling about dating and accept an invitation for dating. III. Teaching Methods 1. lecture 2. individual, pair, or group work 3. role-playing activity and discussion IV. Teaching Aids: Recorder; MP3; Courseware, etc. V. Teaching Time; 4 periods

Teaching Procedure Part I:Listening 1.Learning Strategy Introduction 课堂口语交际策略的练习途径: 交际策略的分类有三种,成就策略、社会交互策略、心理策略,包括减缩策略和成就策略 以及补偿策略。其中成就策略被认为是最为科学并最能促进交际进行的行之有效的策略。 学习者的语言输出过程包括计划阶段和实施阶段。计划阶段由交际目标、计划过程、计划 本身构成:实施阶段由计划、实施过程和语言产出构成。当学习者无法实现最初计划时,即 交际中遇到困难时会有两个选择,一是采取缩减策略,包括形式缩减和功能缩减,借此调整 原始目标,二是采取成就策略设法加以解决,包括补偿策略和检索策略。补偿策略又分为合 作策略和非合作策略。合作策略包括直接求助和间接求助的形式。非合作策略包括语码转 换、转述、直译、替换、造词、重组以及非语言交际策略等。课堂中口语交际策略练习途 径如下: ()把课文当作讨论的主题,课堂就是讨论会场。学生可以根据各自的程度对文本语言知识提 出问题并在同学之间用英语进行讨论,也可以根据文本内容发表自己的观点、看法或者针 对篇章进行分析、推理和判断等活动。 (2)把一周所见所闻最有印象的人和事进行回亿课堂是再现他们实际生活经历的场所。教师 可以提前布置好此项任务,形成惯例,让学生以组为单位相互交流。学生都是演讲者,教师始 终是组织者、引导者和参与者。 (3)以常见的有争议的话题作为辩论主愿,课堂就是辩论的场所。学生分为正方、反方和评论 组。教师的作用是给予引导和提供必要的知识,积极参与双方的辩论。 (4)把图片当作激发联想的引子,课堂就是学生进行描述、抒发情感的自由王国。学生可以大 胆想象、畅所欲言。教师不仅是知识的传播者,而且也是兴趣的鼓动者。 (⑤)把新闻报道的内容作为采访内容,课堂就是采访现场。学生分为记者组、律师组、讲解组 当事人组。教师是服务者、资源提供者,也是倡导者和组织者。 Effective Listening

3 (1) Barriers to Effective Listening Prejudgment: Jumping into conclusions close their minds to additional information Self-centeredness: Shifting attention from the speaker to themselves Out-listening: Listening selectively & Disparity between the rate of speech (120-150 w/m) and rate of thought (500-800 w/m) (2) Improving Your Listening Skills Listening for concept, key ideas, and facts Be able to distinguish between evidence and argument, idea and example, fact and principle Analyze the key points—whether they make sense and are supported by facts Using context clues, structure pattern, and intonation clues Look for unspoken message in the speaker's tone of voice or expressions Keep an open mind Ask questions that clarify Reserve judgment until the speaker has finished Take meaningful notes that are brief and to the point 2. Language and Culture Notes: Please refer to the Language and Culture Notes in Teacher’s Book (Book Two) for College English---Focus Listening and Speaking (Page 166, 179) 3. Listening Practice: 1) Lead in to the text by asking a question ---“Have you ever dated?” 2) Explain the new words and expressions in the conversation in order to smooth away linguistic difficulty; help students to establish listening expectations and activate their prior knowledge about the topic. 3) While listening for the first time, ask students to grasp the main idea of the material. The Answer for Reference: In this picture.two rows of yo forms and snacks.Organized by a special agency,speed dating enables people to date about twenty persons in one night By attending this speed dating people save a lot of time going from one blind date to another or daydreaming the coming of their Mr.and Mrs Right.That's why speed dating becomes more and more popular these days in the west. The answer for reference It's cool to be under the blue sky and on the silver sand beach.But here we see a bottle of chili sauce and a cucumber lie comfortably on two lounge chairs.And the cucumber is wearing a pair of sunglasses.Humorous isn'tit?Imagine the chili sauce bottle and the cucumber are dating Indeed,nowadays,no dating is impossible.There are lots of"Beauty and Beast"cases.I think this picture is an advertisement for the brand of chili sauce.which indicates that the chili sauce is suitable for any kind of food,even for a cucumber! Option 2:Group Discussion The topic:What do you think of dating of university students? (1)In the discussion,the teacher can form groups of students,preferably 4or 5 in each group. (2)Each goup works on the topic for a give time period,and students in each group have to (3)A feedback session is conducted with the whole class in which each group justifies its opinion. Part III.Homework

On the tables are some application forms and snacks. Organized by a special agency, speed dating enables people to date about twenty persons in one night.
