The course takes Chinese characteristic socialism and Chinese dream education, and socialism core values education as basis, briefly introduces the historical and cultural background of British literature, and guides the students to know the representative classical writers and their works. Moreover, through reading the representative works of main British writers, class discussion, analysis, and reflection, students will primarily improve their knowledge of English history, society and culture and the ability of critical thinking. The course of British literature is mainly to introduce, read and discuss the selected parts of the representative works of famous British writers in various periods. It focuses on reading, discussion and analysis of the literary works: through understanding the development and changes of British literature, analyzing the characteristics of writers and appreciating the details of literary works at the same time, the students are preliminarily trained to understand and interpret the British literary works and identify history and reality critically, are helped to master the Marxist world outlook and methodology. Besides, from the dimension of history and reality, theory and practice, compare and contrast, etc., students’ perception and understanding of British literature
society and culture are enhanced. The teaching methodology of British literature is mainly based on heuristic, interactive and mixed teaching. The interaction of preview after class is combined with the interaction of lecture, question and answer and class discussion. Students are required to attend classes on time and their attendance will be checked in accordance with university regulations.
