中国社会科学院大学《英语国家概况一》课程大纲 课程基本信息（Course Information） 课程编号 （Course ID） 1242020040 *学时 （Credit Hours） 32 *学分 （Credits） 2 *课程名称 （Course Name） 英语国家概况一 Contemporary British Culture and Society I 先修课程 （Prerequisite Courses） 综合英语一、二、三、四 *课程简介 （Description） 《英语国家概况一》是按照《高等学校英语专业教学大纲》中关于英美国家概况部分 的要求而开设的必修课。课程历时 16 周，分别从概貌、家庭、就业、业余生活、教 育、福利、宗教、法律、政治、经济、外交、大众媒介、历史等方面介绍英国社会及 其变化，并补充介绍了两个英联邦国家——澳大利亚和新西兰——基本概况。每个单 元分三个部分：信息提供、信息利用、附加部分，以满足不同层次学习者的不同需要。 在信息提供部分，学生利用英语去获取信息；在信息利用部分，学生利用已获取的信 息根据所提问题进行小组讨论或书面总结，从而发展其语言应用能力；附加部分为有 兴趣进一步了解英国社会的学生提供资源和材料，提高他们的辩证分析与思维能力， 为以后的文化交流工作打下坚实的基础。课程整体设计以学生为中心，充分鼓励学生 积极参与个性化创新性的文化思辨，在了解文化要素的基础上，提升学生的家国情怀 和文化素养，提升对问题的洞察和解决能力。 *课程简介 （Description） Contemporary British Culture and Society is a compulsory course for English majors, with the purpose of informing students of British culture and society, and enhancing students’ language abilities. The course contains sixteen themes, which introduces many important issues of Britain. They include family, education, work, leisure, tourism, crime, legal system, religion, welfare, domestic economy, system of government, political parties, mass media, , history, international relations and foreign trade. Each chapter falls into three closely related sections: Section A (Exposition texts), Section B (Exploitation activities) and Section C (Extension tasks). Section A is the input section of the course, where students are given information about aspects of modern British society. In Section B, students are given the opportunity to reflect on and develop their understanding of their knowledge about Britain. The aim of Section C is to develop the students' interpretative abilities through utilizing the knowledge they possess. What’s more, a brief introduction to two Commonwealth countries – Australia and New Zealand – are also incorporated in the course and caters to students who might be particularly interested in these two countries.
