On genesis of BSEo and Measures against it In the past decade or so, some of the countries highly developed in animal husbandry were, more or less, plagued by illness. Britain was the first to see her economy devastated by BsE. Then some other European countries were inflicted with BSE eruption as well. U.S. even identified a BSE-infected sheep. In recent years, some Asian and Latin American countries, one after another, witnessed the outbreak of FMD2. It is believed that the pandemic is closely related to the modernized feeding method and technology. For instance cattle used to live on grass. but in order to reduce cost and make the cattle fatter and higher-yielding, men employ modern biotechnology to manufacture synthetic forage. Since cattle are usually fed with synthetic protein-rich animal-based feeds they are apt to suffer from bsE induced by prion the infectious agent. It is undeniable that the large-scale spread of the epidemic is largely ascribed to mens artificial and excessive modification of the feeding mode to increase productivity which merely ends up violating the natural regulation of animals. Additionally, in order to save the valuable land and shorten the growth phase of animals, a highly intensive mode of production is adopted. The traditional natural pasture is substituted by the factory shed-rearing In the limited feeding pen men adopt electrified and computerized means to control temperature humidity etc in animal's growing environment. However, poultry and livestock lose their haven where they play out their natural selves. And their ability to resist disease is weakened. Once one certain phase in shed-rearing goes wrong or once some highly infectious disease like BSE, FMD, chicken pest etc. is identified tens of thousands of an imals will suffer which further cast indirect impact on human being Surely we should by no means discard advanced technology, reject modern agriculture and animal husbandry and retreat back to the original extensive mode of production simply because of the dissemination of BSE and FDM. To solve the problem concerning the supply of grain and meat, we have no choice but to employ modern agricultural technology.
