Next, I will ask Ss to read the passage again quickly and put the correct order before 6 sentences in 1 min and 30 seconds. And then I will check the answers with Ss and show them the plot of the story. 3 mins TS While￾reading activity 2: To practice Ss’ detailed reading skills I will ask Ss to find out and write down the answers of the following 3 questions in 2 mins: - Why did Johnsy think that she was going to die? - What made Johnsy decide to live? - What did Behrman do that cost his life? Post￾reading activity1: To develop Ss’ understan ding of the concept of the passage: hope and self sacrifice and relate the topics to Ss’ real life First, I will ask Ss to think about and write down their answers of the following question in 2 min and 30 seconds: - What have you learnt from this story? - people sacrificing for others. Can you think of some similar stories. Before I let Ss to think I will paraphrase the meaning of self-sacrifice as this word might be difficult to some SS, Self-sacrifice: give up something valuable for other persons and things. Then I will share my answers to the first question to Ss: the value of self-sacrifice and the power of hope and belief.
