Frankenstein and Clerval moved on to Ireland, but the monster followed them and killed Clerval.Frankenstein was accused of the murder and spent three months in jail before being proved innocent and being released. Soon,he returned to Switzerland. Some time later,he married his childhood sweetheart,Elizabeth, but on their wedding night, while Frankenstein was searching the inn to make sure the monster was not there,Elizabeth was strangled in her bed.
