The course takes Chinese characteristic socialism and Chinese dream education, and socialism core values education as basis, briefly introduces the historical and cultural background of selected English poetry, and guides the students to know the representative poets and their works. Moreover, through reading the representative poetry, class discussion, appreciation, analysis, and reflection, students will primarily improve their knowledge of English history, society and culture and the ability of appreciation of and critical thinking about English the language. The course of Selected Readings of English Poetry is mainly to introduce, read, appreciate, and discuss the whole poem or selected lines of the representative poems of famous poets in various periods. It focuses on reading, appreciation, discussion and analysis of the poems: through understanding the development and changes of English poetry, analyzing the characteristics of poets and appreciating
