9AU2 reading--Two geniuses Learning objectives: 1.Students can skim and predict the content of the story, 2.Students can understand the five elements of a story,and analyze the story plot. 2.Students can retell the story. Learning procedures: 1.Warm-up:guess who the great minds are. The teacher shows the introduction of four famous people (Hua Luogeng,Albert Einstein Confucius,Marie,Curie)in the history for students to guess. Question:What do they have in common? Answer:They are geniuses. 2.Pre-reading:make predictions and check them out. 2.1 The teacher shows three pictures and asks the students to guess what is happening 2.2 The teacher asks the students to predict what kind of story it is. 3.While-reading 3.1 Read for the gist:The students skim the story to check their answers to the questions in Part 3.2 Read for details:The students read the story carefully,and decide whether the statements are true or false.Students should also find evidence in the story to support their answers. 3.3 Read to understand the story plot:The students read after the recording and put the sentences in the right order.Then the students watch a video about the five parts of the story plot. 3.4 Read with a strategy:the students then analyze the story with the five part of the story plot. 3.5 Read for language:read the story and practise the language by doing various exercises about the key words and sentences. 4.Post-reading 4.1 Language focus:the teacher emphasis the usage of "so...that.."and "such...that..." 4.2 retell the story:the students retell the story with the help of pictures and language support. Then they hear a student retell the story. 4.3 Critical thinking:the students discuss in groups and answer two questions Q1:What can you infer from Einstein's words? Q2:Do you agree that Hans was a genius?Why? 5.Self-assessment Q1:Can you understand the story? Q2:Can you use the core vocabulary correctly? Q3:Can you tell the five parts of the plot of a story?
