The newsroom is on the twenty-third floor of a modern skyscraper block.It is a large and airy room. As we look at the stage,near the front of the left we see a coffee table,with old newspapers thrown untidily on it.Two worn-out easy chairs are placed at either end of the table.Behind the coffee table and slightly to its left stands the editor's desk, piled high with documents of varying sorts.And,further back,in the left corner,stand two filing cabinets,again piled high with papers,etc.Between the filing cabinets and the lift,which is center stage at the back,there is a small,neat desk with a small neat chair behind it.To the right of the lift,there is a hat-stand, with a couple of umbrellas,a mackintosh and a hat hanging on it. And in the back right corner there is a floor-to-ceiling bookcase stuffed with books,magazines,newspapers and other assorted documents.A door on the right is the only exit from the stage other than the lift.Downstage of this door,there are two more well-used desks with chairs

Activity 3 Describing People General principle In describing a person,it is important to grasp the characteristic features that distinguish him/her from all other people.Those features that s/he shares with others can be omitted. But the writer should not merely give details of his/her appearance.S/he should try to reveal the person's character,thoughts and feelings,which may be shown in what the person does and says or in how s/he behaves to others.
