A sanple survey was carried out at Nanjing in 2002,which was based on the samples of 217 students and 187 persons of different occupations.It's a research on the variety of glasses people hought,the consumption habit and desires,which are expected to help us better understand people's onnsurptian concent of glasses.And the result sbons that the toosuners pay great attention to quality and service cenerally. A Sample Survey on Glasses Consumption Concept With the improvement of people's standard of living and their consciousness of eye health care, glasses has become the necessity of most people in their daily life. Meanwhile, the optical market has basically grown into a relatively mature buyer's market now, with the continuous development of market economy and the improvement of the competitive system of the industry. Naturally it has given the people's consumption basic characteristics of complication and diversification. A sample survey was carried out at Nanjing in 2002, which was based on the samples of 217 students and 187 persons of different occupations. It's a research on the variety of glasses people bought, the consumption habit and desires, which are expected to help us better understand people's consumption concept of glasses. And the result shows that the consumers pay great attention to quality and service generally. Variety of brought glasses According to the research, the glasses which consumers purchase or have bought are sorted as followed: Category Percentage myopic glasses 58% Sunglasses 14.6% contact lenses 11.6% anastigmatic glasses 6.2% hypermetropic glasses 4.7% presbyopic glasses 4.0% special glasses 1.5% It's obvious that the myopic glasses gain the largest market share in Nanjing optical market, followed by the sunglasses. The market share of contact lenses achieves 11.6%. Among the consumers of contact lenses, females are in the majority. Among the 47 interviewees wearing or having the experience of wearing contact lenses, there are 31 women and 16 men, showing that the proportion of female is clearly larger than that of male

Consumption habit As for the frequency of consumers'patronage to glasses shops,the following Table based on the statistical result can give a definite description. When we ask the intervievees about their intention to enter the glasses shops frequently or occasionally.ve find that their major purpose is to buy glasses.and there are 159 interviewees of such kind.The second major intention is for refraction, which occupies 23 percent.And about 15.1%of then just accorpany others to the glasses shops,while there are 60 consumers go to the glasses shops for repairng. enjoynent or idling around that had 14.8%percent.Furthermore,there are 13.8%of them for consultation or a look at samples,and the last 10.9%was for the purchase of fittings. As to the selection of places where they go to buy glasses,most of the interviewees prefer the professional glasses shops/companies and the glasses dept. in eye hospitals to the glasses counters in shopping mlls,pedlars or small glasses shops.
