U1 Task 3 Critical Reading Skills Critical Reading To read a text critically is to read it in order to appreciate it and assess its value. The first step towards critical reading is to understand it and to consider the author's intention. When authors start to write a text,they think about what they want it to achieve. Questions for Passage 1: What is the genre of this text? What is the purpose of this text? How does the author develop the idea to achieve that purpose? ·Is it effective?
