《美国英语与美国文化》课程教学大纲 一、课程基本信息 课程代码:16220602 课程名称:美国英语与美国文化 英文名称:American English and American Culture 课程类别:通识课选修课 受 时:32 学 分:2 话用对象·非英语专业 考核方式:考试 先修课程:三水非英语专业学生 二、课程简介 《美国英语与美国文化》专门针对广东财经大学非英语专业学生开设的大学英语 系列通识课程之一。该课程是以认识和解读美国文化为切入点,深化语言学习与文化 学习的内涵关联,提升学习语言的实效和在真实世界中的应用能力。在提高学生文化 意识的基础上,提高学生的跨文化交际能力和批判性思维能力,最终达到提高综合语 言应用能力。 该课程持续16周,每周2节课,共32学时。教学采取以学生为中心,教师讲授 为引导,学生阅读与主题讨论为辅助的模式:将面授与机助学习,课内讲授和课后自 主学习紧密结合起来。本课程的教学评估包括形成性评估和终结性评估。 American English and American Culture is an optional course for non-English majors as one of the liberal education courses.It takes the American culture as the breakthrough point and enhances the connotation between American English and American culture to help students improve their ability of language using in the real world.On the basis of improving students cultural awareness,students intercultural communicative competence and critical thinking ability should be improved so as to prepare for their further study. Furthermore,the ultimate purpose of this course is to urge them to become high-end bilingual talents with international views. The course lasts one semesters,32 periods in all.The teaching process consists of lectures by the teacher,in-class and out-of-class reading and discussing.The evaluation of this course includes formative assessment and summative assessment 三、课程性质与教学目的

《美国英语与美国文化》是一门通识选修课,其主要目的是介绍美国的地理概貌、 政治制度、经济概况、文化传统、体育娱乐、宗教信仰及社会生活等方面的基本知识 有助于学生掌握美国的地理特征、重大历史事件和政治经济制度:了解美利坚民族的 思维方式、价值观念及生活方式:并将语言和文化很好地结合起来,更好地掌握和运 用英语语言,加深对语言和文化的理解,增强对文化差异的敏感性,提高批判性思维 能力,达到扩大知识面、巩固和提高英语水平之目的。同时,通过该课程学习,训练 同学们运用图书馆、互联网等查找资料的学术能力、熟练地运用英语表达所掌握的知 识的能力,并且大大提升同学们的学术英语阅读能力。 四、教学内容及要求 第一章United States:the Land and the People (一)目的与要求 In this unit students will: become more aware of American location and size.geographical features. natural resources,climate and seven state regions. learn about the history of the earlier settlers and immigrants to the U.S.: Recognize the main influences major immigrants have had on Americar English vocabulary; understand the images of America---Metaphors for America find out the major racial and ethnic groups.
