It has three aims: firstly to introduce models and examples of all aspects of pop culture that are common to westerners but largely unknown in Asia; secondly to chart the development and changes within pop cultural elements; and thirdly, to explore pop culture as a trend, phenomenon, and postmodern way of everyday life. Classes will be in English, although any important vocabulary will be given a Chinese translation. Grades will be earned through attendance, presentations (each student will give one short presentation), and an exam. Notes will be provided for each lecture in PDF form.
