The discussions of applied ethics can be traced back to the ancient and medieval times, there were discussions about questions of suicide, treatment of women and infants, just war, etc. But it is not until 1970s, the term “applied ethics” was used, and applied ethics developed as an independent subject. The topics of applied ethics vary from abortion, euthanasia, animal ethics, environmental ethics, racism, sexism, bioethics, genetic engineering, cloning, sexual morality, global justice and violence, etc. This course can be divided into three parts: the first part concerns bioethical questions that include suicide, euthanasia, abortion, genetic engineering, etc; the second part concerns the equality among humans and the equality between humans and other species such as animals; the third part concerns questions of global justice and death penalty and so on.
