It is offered in the first semester to freshmen and sophomores. The purpose of this course is to enable learners to systematically learn the background knowledge of English-speaking countries and at the same time acquire the rich and diverse expressions of English language in real life, improve their interest in English learning, train their English thinking and improve their cross-cultural communication skills. to enhance their confidence in our path, theory, system and culture. The Course materials and lectures are in English, and theoretical illustrations are mainly in English. This course will introduce the geographical features, natural resources, historical development, political system, economic development, population and social culture of six English-speaking countries: The United Kingdom, Ireland, the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. The focus of the course is to make a comparative analysis of the characteristics of each country and draw regular conclusions. The difficulty is to guide students to properly and fluently participate in the discussion in and out of class in English and demonstrate their acquired knowledge and insights. This course requires students to read the textbook and the relevant texts and audio-visual materials recommended by the teacher before each class, propose at least one thought-provoking question, and submit it to the Wechat group or online teaching platform (such as Rain Class), and the teacher will try to answer these questions in the lectures. In classroom learning, students are encouraged to ask questions at any time, and teachers will insert classroom interaction at appropriate times. In the second half of the course, each student is required to choose a topic he/she is interested in from the content covered by the course and make a class presentation of about 10 minutes.
